Synopsis
For those who struggled with the story, I've tried to put a little
synopsis here to sum it up.
There were lots of moments pointing out the ending to the audience
secretly.
-
At the beginning when I talk about fears, I mentioned Acrophobia,
the fear of heights -
My character mentions the boy having visions and that things moved,
then his whistle is back around his neck like it never happened -
During the polaroid routine, I mention that sometimes it is hard to
tell the difference between the living and the dead and sometimes,
they don't even realise they are dead -
The bolts on the pendulums were 'from the old ferris wheel'
-
All of the things I mentioned the little boy being able to do, my
character starts doing -
There is a 'storm cloud' picked out of the box and it is a storm
that causes the accident -
The three little ghosts poem is about cheating, John cheats
-
The name that is picked out in the polaroid routine is Grant and
that is also the name of the little boy in the second half -
The little girl was called Melliza which is Spanish for 'twin'
-
When my character talks about the story about the mirror, he says
someone he knew told him the story firsthand -
My character mentions a diary entry that went missing
So there were hopefully lots of wonderful puzzle pieces that fell into
place at the end!So here is the synopsis for you all:
ACT 1:
James Keller was a brown haired, brown eyed young man who had his first
sleepover. At the start of the night, his dad told him not to go into a
cabinet that sat in the corner of his living room. Feeling peer pressure
from his friends and knowing something bad was about to happen, he
opened the cabinet and found an old Ouija board and a small wooden box.
He and his friends then sat at that Ouija board and one of the boys
shouts out an insult to the spirits causing them to move the planchette
and spell out the word 'Die'. Scared by the movement of the planchette,
James throws the Ouija board back into the cabinet and the boys swear to
never talk about it again.
James began to see and hear things from that night on, even having the
occasional vision of things that were going to happen in the future. He
was ridiculed and made fun of because of his new found abilities so he
ran away with the circus, hoping they would accept him as one of their
own. When he was there, he decided to turn his gift into an act but in
the process, he became overwhelmed and tried to block out the ghosts.
One of the ghosts explicitly mentioned that he should never open the box
he found in his parents cabinet. Sometimes, he found it hard to separate
the living from the dead and quite often, they looked the same and
rarely realised they were deceased until he told them.
This story is being told to the audience by an old Ride Operator called
Jimmy who hints at something strange happening at the fairground but not
really divulging much more than that.
ACT 2:
In the second act, we are told a second ghost story about a girl from
Spain called Elana. When she's in her late teens, she gets a job in a
local restaurant and meets John. They fall in love and years later Elana
gets pregnant but during the pregnancy, John becomes violent and
threatens her life if she doesn't deliver him a boy. On the day of
delivery, the baby is discovered to be a girl and John flies off the
handle. Slapping Elana infant of the nurse and storming out. Elana pleas
with the nurse for her to take her baby away for fear of John harming
her. Non the less, Elana takes her baby (called Melliza) back home and
John tried to have a boy with several other women but fails, bringing
him back to Elena. He threatens that if she doesn't have another baby
with him, he will kill their daughter which forces Elena to have another
baby with him. When the second baby is born, it is a boy which they call
Grant but during the pregnancy Elana loses her life during complications
which leaves John to raise both children.
John treats Melliza awfully and makes her life a misery. One day at the
fair, Melliza comes up with a plan, a way to escape her dreadful father.
When they all go onto the ferris wheel and her dad is strapped in, she
might have enough room to quickly slip under the safety bar and run
away. She puts her plan into action but it goes wrong and her dress gets
caught on the corner of the footrest of the ride. The ride operator
doesn't realise and as it makes its half revolve, she slips and falls to
the ground. From that day forward, John see's the ghost of his daughter
wherever he goes...
In the middle of this story, we hear a spooky poem about three ghosts
who meet on the 'other side' who realise they have something in common.
We also hear a story about a lady who one night has a message appear on
her vanity mirror, written in lipstick. Spelling the word 'die' and then
the word 'thief'. Even though there is no one in the house, it feels
like this might be something ghostly. This women is known to Jimmy, the
ride operator who is still telling us this story.
Finally, Jimmy tells us that years ago he had something strange happen
to him. He wrote something in his diary and placed it under his pillow.
The next morning, that diary entry was torn from his diary and he has no
idea who did it, how it was done without him knowing or where that entry
is.
FINALE UNPACK
At the end of the show, there is a news bulletin played on an old radio
telling the story of a fairground in which 35 people died during a
ferris wheel incident. (There are exactly 35 people in the audience of
which they are aware) Then, Jimmy is heard on the radio:
When Elana pleaded with the nurse to take her baby, the nurse did.
However, Elana ended up having a twin baby which was delivered by a
different nurse. The twin was only known to Elana. The woman who had the
mirrors was actually the nurse who took the baby and that is why the
word 'Die' and 'Thief' were written on the mirror.
The nurse is the wife of Jimmy, the man who has been telling us this
whole story and Jimmy's birth name is James Keller. He is actually the
little boy from the story at the beginning who can see ghosts and has
visions.
He tells us that he had a vision of his little girl falling from the
ferris wheel so he planned to stop the fair by sounding an alarm on a
whistle. But on the night it was supposed to happen, his daughter was by
his side so he let the ride continued despite there also being reports
of a violent storm.
In reality, he was seeing his daughters secret twin falling from the
ferris wheel in his vision.
When John thinks he is seeing his daughters ghost, he's actually seeing
Jimmy's daughter who was Mellliza's twin sister.
The storm hits and the ferris wheel become detached killing everyone on
board, the audience are those ghosts.
Jimmy's lost diary entry is found in the wooden box that no one was
supposed to open, he wrote it the day he had a vision of the ferris
wheel disaster and apologises to everyone that he didn't stop it from
happening even though it hasn't happened yet.
